Knights Notes-11/7: Busy day for MHS Athletics

Welcome to Knights Notes, a daily recap and preview of all the stuff happening with Knights athletics and former Middletown athletes.

The next two days will see the fall sports season for MHS Athletics end, as this will be the first time that a fall sports team has not one a championship since 2009.

Football will finish out their season tonight at Oakdale (will have a preview for that earlier) and girls cross country will have their season end tomorrow at the state championships, with no chance of a title.

Without further ado, here are your Knights Notes for November 7th:

- Justin Falcinelli and the #21 Clemson Tigers football team staved off an early challenge from the Wake Forest Deamon Deacons winning, 34-20. Falcinelli who was redshirted this year did not play.(Link)

- Middletown High School football will end thir season tonight taking on the Oakdale Bears in a Week 10 matchup. Game time is at 7 p.m. in Ijamsville tonight. This will be the first time Middletown hasn’t made the playoffs since 2004. (Link)

- The last time these two teams played, it was last year, it was also Week 10, and, man, where things different. (Link)

- Kati Rothenhoefer and the American University field hockey team will start their playoff run when they take on the #20 Boston University Terriers in the Patriot League semifinals, at 2 p.m. American comes into the tournament as the 3 seed while Boston is the 2 seed. (Link)

- The last time these two teams played Boston held the slight advantage on got the win. (Link)

- Luke Welch and the Air Force Falcons will take on Incarnate Word University tonight at 7 p.m. in San Antonio. The Falcons will need to win out and get help from other teams in their conference if they want to advance to the conference tournament. (Link)

- Jacky Kessler and the High Point University Panthers women’s soccer team will try to head to the NCAA Tournament with only two game seperating them and the Big Dance. One of those is today as the #3 seed Panthers take on the #2 seed Coastal Carolina Chanticleers at 7 p.m.in Greensboro, NC. (Link)

- We mentioned it last time, but in a continuation of the Middletown-Oakdale rivalry. Kessler (Middletown) will go up against Melanie Faltter (CCU and Oakdale) in today’s game.

- Cassie Poindexter and the Methodist Monarchs women’s soccer team will also look to continue their conference playoff run when the take on N.C. Wesleyan in the USA South semifinals in Martinsville, Virginia at 7:30 p.m. The Monarchs beat NCWU the last time these two teams played. (Link) (Link)

- Poindexter garnered Honorable Mention accolades when the USA South announced their all-conference teams this week. (Link)

- Ashley Higgenbothem and the Charleston Southern University volleyball team are barely clinging to life and will need a win when they take take on Coastal Carolina at 7 p.m. in Myrtle Beach. (Link)

- The Bucs were well handled the last time they played the Chants earlier this year. (Link)

- Although Sam Higgenbothem and the Maryland volleyball team have no chance at making the playoffs but it will be conference pride on the line when they take on Ohio State at 7 p.m. (Link)
