Welcome to Knights Notes, a daily recap and preview of all the stuff happening with Knights athletics and former Middletown athletes.

Today will be a big day for Middletown athletics as four Knights teams participate in postseason play today with two competing in state championships. Although, all of the contests should be interesting the most intriguing is the Boys Basketball team as they start their campaign to capture a state championship after an emotional conclusion to the regular season.

Without further ado, here are your Knights Notes for February 27th:

- Taylor Altomare and George Mason women’s lacrosse took care of business, beating Mt. St. Mary’s by a score of 10-5 as Altomare returned to play just 20 miles from her home. Altomare would play but not record any statistics in her return home. (Link)

- Zach Fontenot and the St. Mary’s College of Maryland Seahawks saw their season come to an end as they were downed by Christopher Newport University in the Capital Athletic Conference semifinals, 83-69. Fontenot did not play in the loss. (Link)

Knight of the Day-February 26th: She was the only one who saw game time today so the Knight of the Day award goes to Taylor Altomare. Altomare saw playing time in George Mason’s 10-5 win over Mt. St. Mary’s.

Record of MHS teams and teams with former MHS Athletes: 1-1

- The Boys Swimming & Diving team will compete in the 2015 1A/2A/3A Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association State Championship at 4 p.m. in Landover. The Knights look to be an outside shot to win the title but there still is hope for Middletown. (Link)

- The Girls Swimming and Diving team will do the same as the boys team with the two meets being held together at the same time. And just like the boys, the girls state title chances appear to be slim and none. (Link)

- The first of two big events of the day starts at 6 p.m. as the Middletown High School Girls Basketball team starts their state championship run when they take on Boonsboro in Boonsboro at 6 p.m. (Link)

- Then the main event is in Middletown at 8 p.m. as the Middletown High School Boys Basketball team will also take on Boonsboro in their first round of playoffs. (Link)

- Robby Tucker and the Frostburg State baseball team will look to continue their hot start to the season when they take on St. Joseph's of Maine in Fayettville, North Carolina. (Link)

- Conner Myers and the Old Dominion baseball team will be in warmer tropes when they take on Rutgers at 6 p.m. in Myrtle Beach. (Link)

- Myers won’t be the only former Knight in Myrtle Beach though as Nick Rabat and the VCU baseball team will take on Pittsburgh at 7:30 p.m. (Link)
