Junior Varsity Boy's Soccer: Knights Use Titans Match to Build

The Middletown High School Knights Junior Varsity Boy’s Soccer team is a team that will have some large shoes to fill in a couple of years. When they try and fill these large shoes two years from now a lot will be expected from these Knights as they look to continue the legacy that those Varsity players have left behind. In order to do that the Knights are going to have to be tested during the years that they are playing at Junior Varsity, something that the Knights take pride in.

The Knights will get one of their first big tests of the season when they take on the Tuscarora High School Titans on Thursday September 15th at Titans Field at 5:30 p.m.

There is a definitive change in the level of intensity when inter-conference play comes around and that holds true for the inter-conference play inside the Central Maryland Conference as both teams have had a high level of success inside the conference and past year’s and both teams have started off their season’s well outside of the conference.

The Knights (2-1) have shown a strong ability to use a stringent defense to spring the offense, using a sharp counter-attack system to get goals on the fast break. This aggressive style of play has played to Middletown’s strengths as the Knights have a large number of midfielders who are comfortable with stepping up in the rush and playing in a more offensive role later in the games.

One of the Knights who has done this the most is Holden Coblentz, who usually plays as a wing back or as a holding midfielder for Middletown but has shown a strong desire to get up in the rush of play late in games and make things happen for Middletown.

This system will be tested against the Titans as Tuscarora is one of the strongest all-around teams in the county and will hope to contain the Knights when they attempt to break on the counter. Tuscarora’s defense plays a system that naturally counteracts the breakouts that Middletown likes to create as the 4-2-3-1 system allows for up to six Titans to be playing in a naturally defensive role.

The Knights have had some tough contests early in the season; falling to Eastern Tech by a 3-2 score and just clipping Century by a 1-0 margin but the match against Tuscarora will be their toughest challenge of the season so far as the Titans possess a multitude of weapons.

Still, Middletown will relish the challenge as they’ll use this opportunity to help them slowly build as a team and get them ready to fill a big pair of shoes.
