Winning After MidKnight
The
Middletown High School Knights Junior Varsity Football team’s match-up against
the Lignanore High School Lancers could be deceiving. One look at the box score
would show that the Knights had fallen to the Lancers by a 35-7 score. Based on
that, it would be easy for one to assume that Middletown was blown out of the
water against Linganore and couldn’t hang with the Lancers.
That assumption
would be very wrong.
Instead, it
was a situation where the Knights battled for four quarters and were very much
in the game when they went into the fourth quarter but a strong fourth quarter
from the Lancers would widen the lead and give Linganore the victory.
The Knights
and the Lancers were almost inseparable for the first three quarters as both
teams registered solid defensive stops and both teams played excellent
throughout the game as they would trade stops and trade scores during the first
three quarters as the Lancers would enter the final quarter holding a slight
14-7 lead over Middletown.
At that point
both teams were very much in striking distance and it seemed that the game
could go either way and that either team could end up picking up the victory.
Unfortunately,
for Middletown the Lancers would open things up in the fourth quarter as they
would put together three scores which would get the score to where it ended at
35-7 Linganore.
Middletown
will look to move on as next week they’ll have another challenge when they take
on the Boonsboro High School Warriors at home as they’ll hope to get back into
a winning streak against the Warriors.
The Knights
(1-1) will hope to use a still potent offense against the Warriors as Middletown
will still do most of their damage using a rushing attack that has shown a lot
of talent over the first two games.
