Winning After MidKnight
High school
season is in full swing so it’s non-stop coverage right now but once we get a
break we have some features on deck that will be really cool, and we’re really
looking forward to getting them out there.
But, those
are on hold for a little while so today we present the Knights Notes for
September 8th.
Yesterday’s News-9/7
- The Junior
Varsity Football team won against their rival Walkersville to get the season
started off with a 1-0 record. The Knights took down the Lions, 35-13 in the
severe weather shortened affair. (Link)
- Abigail
Provost (’14) and the Stevenson Field Hockey team started the home portion of
their schedule with a tough loss to Salisbury, by a 5-1 scoreline as the Sea
Gulls took the victory. Provost did not play in the Mustang’s loss. (Link)
- It’s been
all good things for Clay Smith (’16) in his first collegiate season with the
Hood College Men’s Soccer team as the Blazers won again, this time taking down
Shenandoah, 4-1 in Downtown Frederick. Smith has fit right in with the Blazers
as he pocketed his third goal in his third game as he also had five shots with
two of them on goal for the 3-0 Blazers. (Link)
- Haley
Dalphon (’15) and the Frostburg State Bobcats stuck their way into the win
column as they would pick up an overtime victory over Washington &
Jefferson, 2-1. Dalphon would get the start for the Bobcats and would play in
55 of 94 minutes for the ‘Cats. (Link)
- On the
other hand, Lauren Neary (’15) and the Washington College Women’s Soccer team
landed in the loss column for the first time as the Shorewomen fell to St. Mary’s
of Maryland by a five spot. Washington College was also shutout for the first
time this season as Neary played 35 minutes and picked up a foul in the 5-0
loss. (Link)
- Sarah Kovalchick
(’15) and the Maryland Women’s Soccer team would travel across the state to
Annapolis to take on Navy but unfortunately it was a sad trip back home as the
Knights fell 5-3 to the Midshipmen. Kovalchick would not play in the Terps’
loss. (Link)
- Connor
Myers (’12) also had a rough day as his South Bend Cubs fell in Game #1 of the
Midwest League North Division Semifinals to the West Michigan Whitecaps by a
score of 3-2 in extra innings. The Cubs are now on the brink of elimination
after the 11 inning loss in which Myers went 1-4 with a single, a run, and two
strikeouts. (Link)
Alumni and High School Record: 4-3, 1-0 high school, 3-3 alumni, 0-1
playoffs
Knight of the Day: The award for today will stay inside
the high school as it will go to Middletown sophomore running back Roland
Hockenberry, a member of the Junior Varsity Football team. Hockenberry had 77
yards rushing on 11 attempts with three rushing touchdowns and one reception
for 38 yards as the Knights took down Walkersville.
Today’s Happenings-9/8

Varsity Field Hockey team will look to put themselves in the win column for the
first time at 5:15 p.m. The Knights will take on Carroll County opposition
Francis Scott Key in their second game of the season. (Link)

the JV Field Hockey team starts the Varsity Field Hockey will take the field at
4:00 p.m. against those same pesky FSK Eagles as the Knights also look for
their first win of the season. (Link)
- The Golf
team will play in what might be their most important (tri) match of the season
as the Knights will take on Williamsport and Linganore from Maryland National
Golf Course at 4:00 p.m. It’s a big one because the Lancers are the Knights
foremost competition in the Central Maryland Conference. (Link)
- The Junior
Varsity Boy’s Soccer team will kick their season off when they take on the
Century High School Knights at home, in the friendly confines of Knights Field.
The opening kick goes at 5:30 p.m. (Season) (Link)
- The Varsity
Boy’s Soccer team will also host Century in what will be an intriguing rematch
of last year’s region final between the two Knights. That one will get underway
at 7:00 p.m. from what will surely be an intense atmosphere at Knights Field.

- The Junior
Varsity Volleyball team will look to continue their dominant ways as they will
take on the Urbana High School Hawks from the booming metropolis of Urbana.

- The Varsity
Volleyball team will also take on Urbana and try to replicate their win against
Liberty on the 6th, albeit, without the level of drama that happened
