JV Football: Knights look to overcome depth issues against Bears

Winning After MidKnight

The Middletown High School Knights JV football team has had their share of struggles this season, and with the struggles come questions on what is causing those issues.

There are the in-game ones that everyone will see when they watched the team play. The dropped passes, the fumbled snaps, the opposing receivers that aren’t covered are just a few of the things that haven’t gone Middletown’s way.

As is with the case with most sports teams, from professional to amateur, the reason tend to be a bit more complicated and complex.

One of the problems for Middletown that has been faced this year is depth, or the lack there of.

The Knights (3-3) have a team of just 17 kids which gives them a little wiggle room when trying to put 11 men on the field but does them no help when trying to manage players might need a rest or pulling men off the bench when a player is injured.

Middletown has tried to overcome this handicap valiantly but at times it has gotten the best of them including back-to-back losses to the Linganore High School Lancers.

In both games, Middletown was close in the game but just ran out of steam at the end of the game, an issue which could be avoided if the team was stronger in the depth region. The Knights will look to overcome these issues though when they play the Oakdale Bears away in Ijamsville on October 22nd.

Middletown has turned around their season after losing three of their first four, with 35-18 and 25-0 wins over the Governor Thomas Johnson Patriots and the Catoctin High School Cougars respectively.

Those past two games have shown then that the Knights’ still have a good bit of potency in their offense, making up for the obvious depth issues with a team that can put points up on the board and do it in a quick manner.

The Knights have relied on the talent of sophomore quarterback Adam Bain and running back Cameron Dagenhart to help power the Knights offense as in the past two games they have formed a formidable 1-2 punch.

And if Bain, Dagenhart, and the rest of the Knights are on point tonight they just might make depth be nothing more than a five-letter word.
