JV Football: Knights lose in defensive battle, 8-0

It has just been one of those seasons for the Middletown High School Knights JV football team. The breaks just haven’t been going there way.

No one could have predicted that when practices started on the first day that the Varsity would call up not one and not two players from JV, but a whopping five players.

Those five were some of the best players in the sophomore class and it seemed like they would be helping to steer the JV team to success.

Instead those players have been seeing touches at the Varsity level, forcing the JV team to have to pick together the pieces when the season finally rolled around.

It hasn’t been for lack of better effort either, with Middletown almost never getting blown out and giving almost every team they see a competitive game.

Unfortunately, for Middletown their game against the Oakdale High School Bears followed the same pattern that their season had, with them ending up losing by a final score of 8-0.

Middletown and Oakdale would see each team squander drive after drive as they game went on with both teams getting close to end zone but neither team being able to punch anything across the goal line or through the uprights.

It appeared as the teams were destined for overtime. The Bears though decided to make separate plans that didn’t include the Knights.

Midway through the fourth quarter, after receiving good field position, Oakdale would punch the ball into the end zone and complete the two point conversion giving themselves an 8-0 lead, that they wouldn’t relinquish.

Middletown will look towards their regular season finale an October 29th game versus rival Walkersville.

The Knights will look to get a win and scrape something positive from a season that has been frustrating.
