Winning After MidKnight
Any time a team doesn’t have playoffs
in their future, the goal becomes to finish the season out strong and be a
spoiler. Although, the scenario is a bit different for the Middletown High
School Knights JV field hockey team, since no JV sports in the county have
playoffs, the goals were still the same for Middletown.
The Knights would finish out the
season strong ending on the right side of a 3-1 score against the Tuscarora
High School Titans on a cold, damp evening in Middletown High School.
Middletown (8-3-1) had one of the most
successful seasons in recent history for a team in the Knights field hockey
program, ending up with a fantastic record and shocking regional powerhouses
like Century and Linganore.
The Knights would get the scoring
started off early as freshmen Ashley Donaldson and Chloe Goodie would put
Middletown out in front early with two quick goals.
The weather seemed to play a factor as
both teams had trouble getting their offense’s into gear throughout much of the
game.
The Titans wouldn’t go down easy
though putting up a goal early in the second half to make 2-1 and give the
Knights something to worry about through the rest of the game.
Middletown would respond though as
sophomore Andrea Kundrick tallied late in the game, in what will most likely be
her final JV game, and give the Knights the victory.
Middletown would then, tying in a
common theme from the past games, add some lockdown defense at the end of the
game with stellar goaltending from sophomore Maddy Hillsman to finish their
season strong.
