Welcome to Knights Notes, a daily recap and preview of all the stuff happening with Knights athletics and former Middletown athletes.

It’s been a unique week for athletics here in Middletown and across the region as spring sports are starting, but indoors because of weather, while winter sports playoffs slowly wrap up.

Without further ado, here are your Knights Notes for March 1st:

- It came right down to the wire but the wrestling team fell just short of a Class 1A-2A Region Championship, racking up 149.5 points, 1 ½ shy of South Carroll’s 151 putting them in 2nd place. (Link)

- Mitch Sgrignoli and the Mt. St. Mary’s baseball team would take care of business in Florida when they knocked off the North Dakota St. Bison 7-3. Sgrignoli did not play in the Mountaineer’s win. (Link)

- Erin Doherty and the Shippensburg women’s indoor track and field team would end day 1 of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championship in 2nd place with 45 points just 4 off the pace of 1st place Slippery Rock. Doherty did not compete today as her event, the shot put, takes place today. (Link)

- Johnny Gallaway and the Villanova Wildcats men’s lacrosse team took care of business with ease as they handily beat Delaware by a score of 10-4. Gallaway would open the scoring in the 1st and 4th quarters giving himself 2 goals on 7 shots in the Wildcats third straight win. (Link)

- Mariah Ginebra and the Christopher Newport Captains women’s lacrosse team would see their comeback effort fall short as they lost to the Randolph-Macon Hornets 12-9. Ginebra would pick up a ground ball and force a turnover in the loss. (Link)

- In a surprising defeat Christian Ottenritter, Nick Yancey, and the rest of the Salisbury men’s lacrosse team would be upset by the Gettysburg Bullets, 12-6.  Ottenritter picked up a ground ball and forced a turnover for the ‘Gulls while Yancey did not play. (Link)

- Brittain Altomare and the Hofstra Pride women’s lacrosse team could not pull of an upset of their own as they fell to the #1 Maryland Terrapins by a score of 14-6. Altomare would have a good day though racking up a goal, an assist, 4 draw controls, forcing 4 turnovers, and recording 5 shots. (Link)

- Emily Boyce and the Richmond University women’s lacrosse team would pick up a 13-10 win over the Liberty Flames. Boyce would pick up the win (2-3) and record 4 saves in the winning effort. (Link)

- Erin Wein and the Delaware women’s lacrosse team would snatch up a victory of their own beating Rutgers 12-7 in a matinee. Wein would pick up 2 ground balls in the Blue Hens win. (Link)

- Katie Breeze would have a career day for Robert Morris as the Colonials sailed by Howard taking down the Bison, 24-5. Breeze would pick up a hat trick on 4 shots and before the day was done would add an assist to her linescore. (Link)

- Caitlin Roy and the Stevenson women’s basketball team punched their ticket to the NCAA DIII National Tournament, by beating Albright 54-50 in the Commonwealth Conference Championship. Roy would play 17 minutes and pick up 2 points and 4 rebounds. (Link)

- Nick Rabat and the VCU Baseball team could not pull of their heroics from the past night as they were beaten and beaten soundly by Pitt, falling to the Panthers 6-1. Rabat would not see any action for the 2nd night in a row. (Link)

- McKenzie Myers and the West Virginia Mountaineers gymnastics team would score a win against Pitt though, as in a quad meet between the Panthers, the Mountaineers, Temple, and North Carolina scoring 194.975 points and getting the win. Myers would score a 9.85 on the floor. (Link)

- McKenzie’s brother Conner would also have a successful night as he helped his Old Dominion University baseball team to a 3-2 win over Rutgers. Myers would go 2-3 for the Monarchs and go 1-2 on stolen bases. (Link)

Knight of the Day-February 28th: It would seem a surprise that a Middletown wrestler won’t be getting this but with states still coming up for them, they’ll get their time in the limelight. Today, the honor goes to Katie Breeze who racked up 3 goals and an assist, as Robert Morris took down Howard 24-5 in women’s lacrosse.
