Knights Notes-3/4: Main propels Davis & Elkins to win; Rabat takes on #16 North Carolina

Welcome to Knights Notes, a daily recap and preview of all the stuff happening with Knights athletics and former Middletown athletes.

We’ll try again today as the Middletown High School Boys Basketball team will look to take down the Oakdale High School Bears in their sectional semifinal game that was rescheduled from yesterday.

Without further ado, here are your Knights Notes for March 4th:

- As we said the Middletown High School Boys Basketball team had their game against Oakdale postponed until today. (Link)
- Brooks Warrenfeltz and the Hood College Baseball team had their game against Drew College scheduled for tomorrow postponed until a later date. (Link)

- Chase Hoffman and the Shepherd baseball team had their doubleheader against Shippensburg University postponed til’ a later date due to weather. (Link)

- Howie Kalamets and the Immaculata University Baseball team would earn a split in their doubleheader in Fort Pierce. Florida when they took on Lebanon Valley College. The Mighty Macs would drop Game 1, 10-1 but then come back and take Game 2 from the Dutchmen, 4-3. Kalamets would go 0-2 in Game 1 with a looking strikeout in the 2nd inning and a ground out to shortstop in the 4th inning. He would also add 2 putouts that game. In Game 2, Kalamets would go 1-3, singling in the 1st inning giving him an RBI, then grounding out to 3rd in the 3rd inning, and striking out swinging in the 6th to end his day. Kalamets would also be caught stealing and add 3 putouts in Game 2. For the day, Kalamets would go 1-5 with 3 strikeouts, a single, a RBI, a caught stealing and 5 putouts. (Link)

- Austin Main and the Davis & Elkins Baseball team would split their doubleheader against St. Augustine’s on March 3rd, dropping Game 1, 4-3, and then taking Game 2, 10-6. Main would not pitch in Game 1 but get the start for the Senators in Game 2 and go 5.0 innings giving up 5 runs, 2 of them earned, on 7 hits with a walk and 5 strikeouts. Main would face 23 batters and pick up a no decision in his college debut. (Link)

- Mitch Sgrignoli and the Mount Saint Mary’s Baseball team would continue their struggles at the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida, losing to the Maine Black Bears, 9-2. Sgrignoli would not play for the Mountaineers in the loss. (Link)

- Billy Griffin and the Washington College Baseball team had their game against the #5 Salisbury Seagulls scheduled for 2:00 p.m. today postponed. The make-up date for the game is yet to be announced. (Link)

- Mariah Ginebra and the Christopher Newport University Women’s Lacrosse team would take their first game in San Juan, Puerto Rico beating Roanoke College, 14-11. Ginebra would get the start for the Captains picking up 2 ground balls in the win. (Link)

Knight of the Day-March 3rd: Pitching in your fist college game can be tough, so we’ll give the Knight of the Day award to Austin main who not only pitched well in his college debut but overcame the nerves to put in a good performance. Main would pitch 5.0 innings for the Senators giving up 5 runs with only 2 of them earned on 7 hits with a walk and 5 strikeouts, picking up a no decision.

Record of MHS teams and teams with former MHS athletes: 2-3, 4 postponements.

- The Middletown High School Boys Basketball team will (hopefully) continue their quest towards a state championship as the take on Oakdale High School in a sectional semifinal match-up. M.P.S.S.A.A. will be hoping to get this game in as another snow storm is heading our way but we’ll keep you updated if anything changes. (Story Coming)

- Mitch Sgrignoli and the Mount Saint Mary’s Baseball team will finish off their time in Port Charlotte, Florida hoping to end on a winning note at the Snowbird Classic. The Mountaineers will take on Villanova at 1:00 p.m. (Link)

- Nick Rabat and the VCU Baseball team will have quite the challenge today when they travel to Chapel Hill to take on #16 North Carolina at 3:00 p.m. today. (Link)

- Erin Wein and the #20 Delaware Blue Hens Women’s Lacrosse team will look to pick up some more momentum as they head toward the top of the NCAA poll today when they take on Monmouth at 3:00 p.m. The Blue Hens game against Monmouth will be shown on ESPN3. (Link)

- Connor Myers and the Old Dominion Baseball team will also pick up a little mid-week baseball action when they head south to take on the East Carolina Pirates in Greenville, North Carolina at 4:00 p.m. (Link)

- Danielle Barbeito, Sam Barbeito, and the rest of the McDaniel Women’s Lacrosse team will look to continue their 2-game winning streak when they take on St. Mary’s College. The Green Terror and the Seahawks will start at 4:30 p.m. in Westminster, Maryland. (Link)

- Austin Main and the Davis & Elkins Baseball team will get a chance on the big stage, when they take on Winston-Salem State at 5:00 p.m. today at BB&T Field, home of the Winston-Salem Dash, the A-Advanced affiliate of the Chicago White Sox and a member of the Carolina League. (Link)

- Emily Boyce and the Richmond Spiders Women’s Lacrosse team will look to get back into a winning swing when they take on Old Dominion University at 5:00 p.m. (Link)

- Taylor Altomare and the George Mason Patriots Women’s Lacrosse team across the Potomac River when they take on the Georgetown University at 5:00 p.m. today. The game was scheduled to be played in Fairfax but was moved to D.C. due to weather conditions. (Link)
