Winning After MidKnight
It’s a Sunday
and that means per Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association
(M.P.S.S.A.A.) rules there are no events being played at the high school level
on August 28th but there is a ton of Middletown alumni with college
games today so fire up the barbeque one last time before summer ends and enjoy
today’s Knights Notes.
Yesterday’s News
- Ali
Williams (’16) and the Appalachian State Field Hockey team lost a heartbreaker
yesterday when they fell to Georgetown 4-3, in overtime. Even though the
Mountaineers fell to the Hoyas, Williams picked up a goal in the 2nd
half, that gave the Mountaineers a 3-2 lead at the time. (Link)
- Another
Middletown Field Hockey alum lost a heartbreaker as Emma Provost (’16) and La
Salle fell in overtime to Vermont, 3-2, giving the Catamounts the 2016
Catamount Classic trophy. Provost did not play in the win. (Link)
- It was also
a bad day for Maryland Field Hockey and Middletown Alum and Volunteer Assistant
Coach Joann Engestrom, as #6 Maryland fell to #2 Syracuse, by a score of 4-1 in
Philadelphia. (Link)
- Alizah
Johns-Boehme and the Villanova Field Hockey team had a nationally televised
match-up but ended up falling short as they lost late in the game against
Princeton, by a final score of 1-0. Johns-Boehme did not play in the match. (Link)
- The Frederick
Community College Women’s Soccer team fell again as they lost to Oxford College
at Emory University, in Wilmington, North Carolina by a score of 1-0. The
Middletown trio of Sharnette Gonzalez (’14), Victoria Doing (’15), and
MacKenzie farran (’16) would all not play in the match. (Link)
- Sarah
Kovalchick (’15) and the Maryland Women’s Soccer team ended their contest on a
much more positive note, taking down Penn by a score of 3-1. Kovalchick did not
play in the Maryland win. (Link)
- Connor
Myers (’12) and the South Bend Cubs are still struggling, dropping a 2-0
contest to the Great Lakes Loons (the Dodgers A affiliate) out in the
Heartlands. Myers had anormal day at the plate, going 1-3 with a strikeout. (Link)
Knight of the Day: Today was Ali Williams picking up the
award, as her one goal *almost* helped the Mountaineers to a win and seemed, at
the time, to have put them solidly in the drivers seat.
Today’s Happenings
- The
Middletown Junior Varsity and Varsity Girls Soccer teams will scrimmage Walt
Whitman tonight at 5:00 and 6:40, respectively.
- Connor
Myers and the South Bend Cubs will have look again to get in the win column as
they will take on the Great Lakes Loons in a Sunday matinee from Indiana. The
first pitch will come at 7:05 p.m. (Link)
