It’s a Sunday and that means per Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (M.P.S.S.A.A.) rules there are no events being played at the high school level on August 28th but there is a ton of Middletown alumni with college games today so fire up the barbeque one last time before summer ends and enjoy today’s Knights Notes.

Yesterday’s News

- Emma Provost (’16) saw her first game as a member of the La Salle Field Hockey team end on a positive note, as the Explorers would down Central Michigan 2-0 at the Catamount Classic in Burlington, Vermont. Provost did not see action in the game for La Salle. (Link)

- On the other hand, Emma Neahusan and the Grace College Women’s Soccer team had a rough debut as the #11 Lancers fell to #3 Northwestern Ohio by a score of 6-2. Neahusan would not see any playing time in the Lancers’ loss. (Link)

- There were a smattering of Middletown alumni with bad days and the Middletown trio of Sharnette Gonzalez (’14), Victoria Doing (’15), and MacKenzie Farran (’16) and the Frederick Community College Women’s Soccer team fell to Cape Fear Community College, 4-0. Doing would record a shot on goal in the loss, while Farran and Gonzalez would not see any action according to the box score. (Link)

- Aubrey Pfau and Sam Higgenbothem (’14) clinched their first tournament wins as Maryland Volleyball locked up the 2016 Maryland Invite with straight set wins over Delaware State and Sacred Heart. The Terps would take down Delaware State in the early game 25-14, 25-15, 25-5 and then clinch the title in the late game taking down Sacred Heart 25-16, 25-14, 25-18. Higgenbothem would not play in the first match but would play in all three sets against Sacred Heart recording an ace, a service return point, and five digs. (Link) (Link)

- Connor Myers (’12) and the South Bend Cubs still couldn’t get out of their rut, dropping a 7-2 contest to the Great Lakes Loons (the Dodgers A affiliate) out in the Heartlands. Myers would go 1-4 at the plate with a single and would make a “catch of the year” according to the Cubs Twitter account but no video of it is available. Sad! (Link)

Knight of the Day: Its’ back-to-back Knight of the Day awards for Maryland Volleyball junior Sam Higgenbothem as she had a decent game against Sacred Heart but more importantly, got her hands on some hardware as Maryland won the 2016 Maryland Invite.

Today’s Happenings

It’ll be a fun day of action as from 11:00 a.m. to about 9:00 p.m. there is gonna be at least one and if not more Middletown Alumni in action.

- It’ll be Game #2 for Ali Williams (’16) and the Appalachian State Field Hockey team (0-1) as they’ll look to sneak into the win column as they take on the Georgetown Hoyas from Boone, North Carolina at 12:00 p.m. (Link)

- Emma Provost (’16) and her La Salle Field Hockey team (1-0) will have a chance to get their hands on some hardware as they will take on the Vermont Catamounts in a quasi-championship game of the 2016 Catamount Classic in Burlington. Things will kick off from hostile territory for the Explorers at 12:00 p.m. (Link)

 - it’s not a match for a title but it is a crucial one as Joann Engestrom will look to help coach the #6 Maryland Field Hockey team (1-0) in their match-up against the #2 Syracuse Orange at 12:00 p.m. as part of the 2016 Conference Cup from Philadelphia. (Link)

- In the first Middletown alumni interaction with ivy Leaguers of the day, Alizah Johns-Boehme (’15) and the Villanova Women’s Soccer team (1-1) will head up North to take on the Princeton Tigers from Princeton at 7:00 p.m. It will be broadcast on National TV as you can tune into see the Wildcats and Tigers square off on ESPN U. (Link)

- The Frederick Community College Women’s Soccer team (0-1) will also have a chance to get back in the win column with some help (hopefully) from the aforementioned Middletown trio earlier in this post (wasn’t planning on typing it a 2nd time) as they take on Oxford College of Emory University at the Cape Fear Community College Port City Classic in Wilmington, NC at 11:00 a.m. (Link)

- The other Middletown alum participating in an Ivy League excursion will be Sarah Kovalchick as her Maryland Women’s Soccer team (1-1-1) will take on Penn from the City of Brotherly Love as they to notch a 2-0 road trip. Opening kick is at 5:00 p.m. (Link)
