Winning After MidKnight
MIDDLETOWN-It’s
been almost nine months and a handful of days since the Middletown High School
Varsity Boy’s Soccer team steeped off a soccer field with the state
championship trophy in hand and a banner to be hung awaiting them.
Today, Friday
September 2nd, they’ll get their chance to attempt to get back to
the same spot they were in last year as they’ll take on the Governor Thomas
Johnson High School Patriots at 7:30 p.m. at Knights Field in Middletown High
School in Game #2 of the Sheffler-Ford Tournament.
The Knights
are hosting the Sheffler-Ford Tournament again but their hosting of the
tournament has not always brought with it success. In fact last year the
Knights lost one and drew one of their two games in the Sheffler-Ford
Tournament, a result which would not aptly describe how the rest of the season
would go.
“Last year we
weren’t able to win our first two in this tournament, so we understand this
isn’a huge deal,” said Middletown senior midfielder Luke Ahalt. “We’re still
working on some things as a team.”
Still this
tournament will be a good experience for the Knights as they’re competition in
the tournament will include three Central Maryland Conference opponents in the
Walkersville High School Lions, the aforementioned Patriots, and the Linganore
High School Lancers.
The rules for
this tournament will be modified as each team will get points for the result
they get, plus the number of goals that they score, and also points from the
mandatory penalty shootout that will be at the end of every game.
The Knights
can do themselves a favor by registering a big win in the opening game against
the Patriots because their second game of the tournament will come against the
Lancers and it will be a much tougher opportunity for them to register a big
point total.
Kick off of
this game is scheduled for7:30 but will start sometime after the final whistle
of the Linganore-Walkersville contest that follows before it.
