Girl's Soccer: Knights look to take down Westminster

Winning After MidKnight

MIDDLETOWN-The Middletown High School Knights Varsity Girl’s Soccer team had an opportunity to learn lessons from their first game of the season, a 3-0 loss to the Broadneck High School Bruins in the Urbana Tournament.

Now, the Knights will have a chance to put those lessons into action when they take on the Westminster High School Owls in their second and final game of the Urbana Tournament on Saturday September 3rd.

Both the Owls and the Knights are coming into this contest with a 0-1 record with their only loss coming in the first game of this tournament. The Knights lost to Broadneck as was mentioned above and the Owls lost to the Urbana High School Hawks by a final score of 5-0.

This game is a much more winnable contest for the Knights compared to the Broadneck game in which Middletown had to go up against the defending 4A State Champions. And, although the Knights held their own against the Bruins during the match, Broadneck clearly had a speed and size advantage which the Knights could not handle or deal with.

The key for Middletown today will be to find a way to tap into their offense and take advantage of a vulnerable Owls’ defense that has already given up five goals in the first day of the tournament and is most likely susceptible to more. The issue for Middletown will be finding the offensive power to tap into to get to the Westminster defense.

Middletown has been shutout in its’ last two contests, a 3-0 scrimmage loss to Walt Whitman and the 3-0 loss to Broadneck yesterday, and although the Knights did register seven shots yesterday compared to the four against Walt Whitman, Middletown still seems to be snake bitten when it comes to scoring as they’ve been doing everything to earn goals except for putting the ball in the back of the net.

If Middletown can get the offense going they can then in turn get the monkey off their back and once that happens the goals may come free and flowing for the Knights helping them notch victories and develop confidence for a team that truly needs it.
