It’s a Sunday
which means no high school sports today but there are a few Middletown
Athletics alumni in action and plenty were in action yesterday so without further
ado, the Knights Notes for September 4th.
Yesterday’s News
- The Boy’s
Cross Country team ran in the Seahawk Invitational at South River High School
and came in 10th place out of 26 teams. You can read all about the

- Reilly
Caldwell took the title at the Seahawk Invitational as the Girl’s Cross Country
team came in 10th place out of 17 teams in the meet. Read more about

- The Varsity
Boy’s Soccer team rolled through the Sheffler-Ford tournament clinching the
title with their 4-0 win over Linganore. Our recap of the game is right there.

- In the
final game of the Urbana Tournament the Varsity Girl’s Soccer team drew with
Westminster 1-1. Read all about it here. ()
- Brent Leber
(’15) and the Lipscomb Men’s Cross Country team competed in the Belmont Opener
in Nashville, Tennessee, as Leber would pick up a 8th place as
Lipscomb came in 2nd out of seven Division 1 schools. (Link)
- Zach Welch (’12)
and the Monmouth Football team got their season underway with a bang as they
took down the Lehigh Mountain Hawks by a score of 23-21. Welch would have 87
yards on 18 attempts with one touchdown in Monmouth’s win. (Link)
- The
Middletown duo of Tim Pirrone (’14) and Tim Schumacher (’14) both got starts
for the Lebanon Valley Football team but the Dutchmen fell to Franklin &
Marshall by a score of 30-6. Pirrone got the start at quarterback and passed for
113 yards going 10-21 with 1 interception while rushing for 27 yards on 9
attempts with 1 touchdown. Schumacher had 3 tackles with one being a tackle for
loss and a sack. (Link)
- Clemson
Football and Justin Falcinelli (’14) got the win in primetime against Auburn by
a score of 19-13. Faclinelli would not play in the #2 Tigers’ win. (Link)
- Bradley
Rinehart (’14) and Shepherd Football downed West Virginia Wesleyan in the Rams’
season opener by a score of 27-12 in Shepherdstown. Rinehart did not see any
game action. (Link)
- Will
McClain and the Maryland Football team got the D.J. Durkin era at College Park
underway with a bang as they sliced and diced Howard to the tune of a 52-13
win. McClain did play in the win but didn’t record any statistic because, well,
he’s an offensive lineman. (Link)
- Jace Denham
(’16) and Marquis Lauer (’16) saw the Frostburg State Bobcats Football team
take down Geneva by a score of 31-10 win over Geneva. Lauer did not play but
Denham did play in the win but did not record any statistics. (Link)
- The Ambrose
brothers of Rob (Head Coach) and Jared (Offensvie Coordinator) were leading the
Towson Football team yesterday but it was a tough one as the FCS Tigers fell to
FBS South Florida, 56-20. (Link)
- Clay Smith
(’16) and the Hood College Men’s Soccer team started off the Drew fall Festival
by beating the aforementioned Drew University, 2-1. Smith got the start and
registered a shot for the Blazers. (Link)
- Brittany
George (’13) and Erin Scarborough (’16) would help the Hood Women’s Soccer team
notch their first win of the season over Penn State-Harrisburg. Smith and
George would both start in the 1-0 win but not record any statistics. (Link)
- MacKenzie
Noel (’13) and Salisbury Women’s Soccer had their second game of the Sea Gull
Classic cancelled due to weather.
- Emma Neahusan
(’14) and the Grace Women’s Soccer team drew with Bethel, 0-0, picking up their
first result. Neahusan did not play in the tie. (Link)
- Lauren
Neary (’15) and the Washington College Women’s Soccer team would go to 2-0 on
the season with a 2-1 win over Gwynedd Mercy. Neary would record a shot in the
win. (Link)
- Sam
Higgenbothem (’14) and the Maryland Volleyball team finished off the Kansas
Invitational with a straight set win over Chicago State, giving them 2nd
place in the tournament. Higgenbothem would start in the win and record an ace,
a service assist, a service error, and 5 digs. (Link)
- Connor
Myers and the South Bend Cubs (’12) would pick up a 7-4 win over the Dayton
Dragons. Myers would go 3-4 in the win, with a double, two runs, a walk, and a
strikeout. (Link)
Knight of the Day: Lots to choose from but a hat trick is
usually the trump card in this case, so the award for September 3rd
will got Josh Woozley who had 3 goals in the Varsity Boy’s Soccer team’s
Sheffler-Ford Tournament clinching win over Linganore.
Today’s Happenings
- Emma
Provost (’16) and the La Salle Field Hockey team will take on their cross-town
rivals in Temple at 12:00 p.m. The Explorers will head across Philly to take on
the Owls from Howarth Field. (Link)
- Joann
Engestrom, Volunteer Assistant Coach for Maryland Field Hockey, and her #6 Terps
will compete in their 2nd game at the Big Ten/ACC Cup In Lancaster,
Pennsylvania. They’ll take on the #8 Boston College Eagles at 2:00 p.m. (Link)
- Clay Smith
(’16) and the Hood Men’s Soccer team will compete in their final game at the
Drew Fall Festival in Madison, New Jersey against FDU-Florham at 3:00 p.m. (Link)
- Alizah
Johns-Boehme (’15) and the Villanova Women’s Soccer team will look back to get
in the win column as they take on the #8 North Carolina Tar Heels in Durham,
North Carolina at 12:00 p.m. (Link)
- Haley
Dalphon (’15) and the Frostburg State Women’ Soccer team will look to get in
the win column themselves’ for the first time when they take on Catholic
University from Frostburg at 2:00 p.m. (Link)
- Sarah
Kovalchick (’16) and the Maryland Women’s Soccer team will get a quick two game
road trip underway as they’ll head to Boone, North Carolina to take on the
Appalachian State Mountaineers at 1:00 p.m. (Link)
- Connor
Myers (’12) and the South Bend Cubs have only two more regular season game left
and they’ll play the next-to-last one today when they take on the Dayton
Dragons at 2:05 p.m. (Link)
