Winning After MidKnight

It’s a big time here in the Happy Valley as the Middletown Football team has a 2-0 record and things are looking up all around. So, let the good times flow as you read the Knights Notes for September 10th.

Yesterday’s News-9/9

- It was a “Freaky Friday” for the Varsity Football team as they rolled over Eastern Tech by a 36-0 scoreline in a game that was stopped after the first half due to lightning. (Link)

- The Junior Varsity Boy’s Soccer team would lose a heartbreaker in Baltimore to the Mavericks as they fell by a 3-2 score on a goal by the Mavericks inside the final 10 minutes. (Link)

- The Varsity Boy’s Soccer team would take on all the obstacles including a physical Eastern Tech team but would prevail by a 1-0 score as they move to 4-0 on the season. (Link)

- Emma Provost (’16) and the La Salle Field Hockey team would head into the 301 and take on Towson University but the homecoming for Provost would not go as planned as the Explorers would lose to Towson 2-1 in a game Provost would not play in. (Link)

- Will McClain (’15) and the Maryland Football team would head down to Florida to take on Florida International and in typical Florida fashion would roll over FIU in a Miami rain storm by a score of 41-14. McClain would not play in the UMD win. (Link)

- The Middletown Golf team version of Jake Darr (’16) and the college golf version of Darr are not different at all as in his first college tournament Darr would go out and throw up a 68 in Alliance, Ohio at the Malone Invitational. Darr’s 68 leads the pack by one stroke as he heads into the 2nd day while his Washington & Jefferson Golf team sits in 2nd place two strokes behind Ashland. (Link)

- Brittney George (’12), Erin Scarborough (’16) and the Hood Women’s Soccer team found their way into the win column as they took down Mount Aloysius 3-2 and both Knights alums found a way to make an impact. Both would pick up a start for the Blazers, both would score their first career goals and both would get the game tying goals at the time for the Blazers. (Link)

- Alizah Johns-Boehme (’15) have had a rough go in the early part of the season and it wouldn’t get any better as the Wildcats would lose a heartbreaker of a contest falling to cross-town rival St. Joseph’s 3-2 in double overtime. Johns-Boehme would not play in the Wildcat’s loss. (Link)

- Sam Higgenbothem (’14) and the Maryland Volleyball would take on Princeton and would play an absolute nail-biter as the Terps and Tigers came down to the final points of the game in the final set as UMD won three sets to two; 25-12, 21-25, 25-15, 23-25, and 15-13. Higgenbothem would play in all five sets for the Terps and would record an ace, a set assist, a service return, and six digs. On the other side of the Georgetown Classic, Georgetown fell to Towson 3-1 but the Tigers beat Princeton 3-0 meaning the Tigers are a ½ game ahead of the Terps for the tournament lead. (Link)

- Connor Myers (’12) and the South Bend Cubs have had a suspenseful season but it will have to wait to reach its crescendo as Game 3 of the Midwest League Northern Division Semifinal was suspended in the top of the 8th inning with the Cubs tied at 3 with the West Michigan Whitecaps. Before the rain came, Myers was one of his best offensive games of the year as he went 2-3 with a double, a triple and two runs batted in. (Link)

Alumni and High School Record: 5-3, 2-1 high school, 3-2 alumni, one 68 golf score (and current 1st place)

Knight of the Day: Today there are so many worthy candidates to receive this honor but one sticks out just a little more than most as if it wasn’t for Connor Myers the South Bend Cubs would be six outs from their season being over so he’ll scoop up this award.
