It’s here!
Yes, the first play date for Middletown Athletics is finally here and we’ll
have all the coverage of today’s events including season previews for all the
teams kicking off their season today, previews of all the games today and so
much more. So buckle up, read the Knights Notes for September 2nd
and let’s get the main part of the 2016-2017 Middletown Athletics season
underway.
Yesterday’s
News
- The Golf
team kept up their winning ways as they dropped the Frederick Cadets by a score
of 157-191 as the Knights have shown no signs of slowing down. You can read all

- Kenton
Grossnickle (’12) and the Messiah College Men’s Cross Country team participated
in the Dickinson Light up the Night Invitational, coming in 3rd
place in their debut this season. Grossnickle would come in 45th
place in the meet, crossing the line with a time of 18:04.9. (Link)
- Danny Finn (’15)
and the Coast Guard Academy Football team would win in their opener as they
would easily slide past Anna Maria College by a score of 34-0. Finn would not
play in the Bears win. (Link)
- Brittney
George (’13), Erin Scarborough (’16) and the Hood College Women’s Soccer team
would participate in their season debut but they would fall to Catholic
University by a score of 3-0. Both Scarborough and George would get the start
for Hood with George not recording any stats and Scarborough putting up one
shot on goal. (Link)
- Emma
Neahusan (’14) and the Grace College Lancers would end up on the wrong side of
the score once again as they fell to Martin Methodist by a score of 2-0 in
Pulaski, Tennessee. Neahusan would not play in the Lancers’ loss. (Link)
- Haley
Dalphon (’15) and the Frostburg State Women’s Soccer team started of their season
with a close loss as they fell to Bridgewater by a score of 1-0 on opening day
in Allegheny County. Dalphon would get the start for the Bobcats and record one
shot. (Link)
- It was a
banner night for the Washington College Women’s Soccer team and Lauren Neary (’15)
as Washington rolled to an 8-0 thrashing of Rosemont. Neary would play in the
win but not record any statistics. (Link)
- Connor
Myers (’12) and the South Bend Cubs finally got the monkey off their back
taking down the West Michigan Whitecaps, 5-3 to get back in the win column.
Myers would go 1-4 with a double in the Cubs win. (Link)
Knight of the Day: This honor will go to a pair of
golfers again as Andrew Heon and Joey Weiland both shot cool 37’s in the
Knights win over Frederick.
Today’s Happenings
- The Middletown
High School Varsity Football team (#team43) will start off their season with a
road contest as they’ll travel deep into Carroll County to take on the
Manchester Valley Mavericks at 7:00 p.m. The season preview for #team43 and the
preview for #MIDvMVL are both up now. (Season) (Game)
- It’ll be a
chance to reestablish their strengths as the Middletown High School Varsity Boy’s
Soccer team will look to start the Sheffler-Ford Tournament off with a win as
they take on the Governor Thomas Johnson Patriots at 7:30 p.m. from Knights

- The
Middletown High School Varsity Girl’s Soccer team will have quite the challenge
as they’ll take on the defending 4A State Champion Broadneck Bruins at Urbana
High School at 4:00 p.m. Our preview of the game and the season preview are

- Abigial
Provost (’14) and the Stevenson Field Hockey team will open their season down
in Hill Country as they’ll take on Lynchburg College at 6:00 p.m. (Link)
- Ali
Williams (’16) has had a hot start to her season and she’ll hope to continue
that as her Appalachian State Field Hockey team will travel down to
Harrisonburg, Virginia to take on James Madison. The Dukes and the Mountaineers
will get underway at 6:00 p.m. (Link)
- Joann
Engestrom and the #6 Maryland Field Hockey team will have a busy day as they
get play started in the Big Ten/ACC Cup from Spooky Nook Sports Complex in
Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Engestrom will coach up the Terps at 7:00 p.m. as they
take on #4 Duke, which will play after Game #1 of the 2016 Cup between #8
Boston College and #16 Northwestern. (Link)
- Nick Welch
(’15) and the Salisbury University Football team will get their season underway
in Friday Night Lights style as they’ll
take on Albright at 7:00 p.m. The game will get underway from the Eastern Shore
at 7:00 p.m. (Link)
- Mackenzie
Noel (’13) and the Salisbury Women’s Soccer team will have their season debut
against Meredith in the Salisbury University Classic. The Sea Gulls will kick
things off before the football game at 2:30 p.m. (Link)
- Alizah
Johns-Boehme (’15) and Villanova Women’s Soccer will look to shake their two
game losing streak as they’ll take on #8 Minnesota at 5:00 p.m. The Duke
Tournament contest will see the Golden Gophers taking on the Wildcats from deep
on Tobacco Road. (Link)
- Sarah
Kovalchick (’15) and the Maryland Women’s Soccer team will hope to get some
home cooking going as they take on Pepperdine tomorrow. The Terps and Waves
will get going from Ludwig Field at 4:00 p.m. (Link)
- Sam
Higgenbothem (’14) and Director of Volleyball Operations Aubrey Pfau and the
Maryland Volleyball team has their work cut out for them when they head to
Lawrence, Kansas to compete in the Kansas Invitational. The Terps will face Arkansas
at 11:00 a.m. and then take on #4 Kansas at 8:00 p.m. In between those two,
Kansas will take on Chicago State at 12:00 p.m. and Arkansas will play Chicago State at 5:00 p.m.
