Winning After MidKnight
Life is good
for the Middletown High School Varsity Boy’s Soccer team. But then again why
wouldn’t it be?
Middletown
has been carrying the swagger that a defending state champion and have backed
that swagger up with the results on the field as they look to do the same thing
that they did almost a year ago.
Oh, and about
those results. Middletown hasn’t just been winning games, they’ve been
assaulting teams with a no-holds offense that has shown a potency that last year’s
offense couldn’t even come close to.
So it was no
surprise to see Middletown take the same approach when the Century High School
Knights came to the Happy Valley and Middletown would deliver the same results
with a 4-0 thrashing over Century that would be in Middletown’s control for
pretty much the whole game.
Middletown’s
vicious attack would be on fire from the start as it wouldn’t even take 15
minutes for the black and orange to put one in the back of the net as in the 11th
minute Josh Woozley would find himself alone with only the keeper to stop him.
His initial
shot was stopped by the Century goalkeeper but the rebound would fall right
back to the feet of Woozley who would do a quick one touch dribble around the
goalie and then deposit the ball into the back of an empty net to give
Middletown a 1-0 lead in the early going.
After former
forward Clay Smith graduated last year there were questions about whether the
Knights offense could keep up and who would be scoring the goals for the
Knights this year.
Woozley has
answered those questions rather definitively as in the first three games of the
season the Middletown senior forward has put on an absolute show to start the
season, using his speed and physicality to overwhelm opponents and stake his
claim as one of the best players in Frederick County.
The first
goal for Woozley would be his 6th of the season but the senior
wasn’t done there as in the 38th minute he would continue his
assault with his 2nd goal of the game. Middletown senior Luke Ahalt
would have a ball open on the left wing and would look to cross just outside of
the box. Ahalt would complete his cross to the empty boot of Woozley who would
receive the cross on top of the goal and would deposit the ball in the net to
give Middletown a 2-0 lead over their Carroll County opposition.
The Knights
weren’t done at 2-0 either as after the halftime break Middletown would
continue the massive attack on the Century defenders with Ahalt getting in on
the goal scoring action as the senior would pocket a ball in the back of the
net off an assist from Grant Brandenburg, opening the Middletown lead to 3-0.
From that
point not much was in doubt for Middletown as they had taken complete control
of the game and would not let it go as they recorded their second clean sheet
of the season.
Middletown
junior Logan Doing would add a fourth goal in late in the game for good measure
as the 75th minute marker would give Doing his first goal of the
season and would put a bow on the Middletown victory, in a game that they
dominated from start to finish in all facets of the game.
It was the
complete result that Middletown has gotten used to early in the season and if
they had it their way the massive attack that is underway will continue for a
long time.
