Winning After MidKnight
The
Middletown High School Knights Varsity Girl’s Soccer team has already proven
themselves as a plucky team that doesn’t show a lot of quit. Whether it is in
games or heading into games after a loss the Knights keep digging and fighting
away at whatever stands in front of them as the Knights make-up for whatever
they lack in solid heart and determination.
Middletown
will look to keep using that heart and determination to spur them to victories
when they take on the Tuscarora High School Titans at Knights Field at
Middletown High School on Thursday September 15th.
Middletown
(1-1) has played two games so far this season and in both of them have had to
call on the heart and determination to power them up in reserve. In the first
game, the Knights played the Brunswick High School Railroaders; in that contest
the Knights were holding on to a 1-0 lead but couldn’t catapult themselves over
the edge and get some separation in the lead.
That is where
the heart and determination came in. After struggling for 60 minutes the
Knights would use that determination to keep chipping away at the Railroaders
and pocket two goals to give them the lead that they had been looking for as
Middletown would end up picking up a 3-0 win.
In the next
game the Knights would have to rely on that heart and determination to help
them again as not once but twice, Middletown find themselves staring down one
goal deficits in the second half. Even worse for the Knights was the fact that
the second deficit would come with just ten minutes to play in the half.
Heart and
determination are a powerful thing when combined together and just like the
rest of the season the Knights had enough of it in reserve to push one goal
past the Hubs to send the game into overtime.
Even though
the Knights lost the game against North Hagerstown in overtime they have already
managed to cement their status as a team that battles and now they’ll look to
translate that over to results when Middletown faces the Titans.
The match-up
against the Titans will provide an even match-up for Middletown as Tuscarora
(1-1) is very much in the same boat as the Knights from an outlook standpoint
as both the Titans and the Knights find themselves in the middle of the pack
early in the season and are trying to separate themselves from the bottom of
the Central Maryland Conference pack.
For both
teams, this game also represents the beginning of the Central Maryland
Conference schedule as both teams have hopes of making it into the Conference
Championship game this year and will look to start the chase to make it back to
that point when they get the conference schedule underway.
This will be
a fun match-up to watch as both teams are not only looking to keep moving
upwards but are two teams that play with a lot of heart and grit meaning that
the game you see on the field in Middletown on Thursday may not be the most
precise game played but it will be the game with the most guts and heart being
played in the county that day, which is something no fan should turn down.
